How to set up a 4×6 thermal label printer on a Mac

Printing guide

Most 4×6 thermal printers, including MUNBYN, Rollo, Zebra and Jadens, work on a Mac. Getting crisp, full-size labels comes down to three settings.

1. Add the printer

Install the driver from the printer maker's website if they provide a Mac one, then add the printer in System Settings > Printers & Scanners. Some network printers work without a driver; if yours does, you'll see it listed when you click Add Printer.

2. Use a 4×6 paper size

When you print, choose your label printer and a 4×6 in (or 100×150 mm) paper size. If the size isn't listed, add a custom paper size of 4 × 6 in with zero margins.

3. Match the printer's resolution

Thermal printers print at a fixed resolution, usually 203 DPI and sometimes 300 DPI; it's on the spec sheet. Labels prepared for the wrong resolution get resized on the way to the printer, which blurs small text and barcodes.

Test it

Print something with fine detail and check that nothing is cut off at the edges and the barcode is sharp. Label Magic's Printer Setup prints a free test label made for exactly this: a border to show the edges and striped patches that only look even at the right resolution.

Skip the manual steps. Label Magic finds the label, crops and rotates it, and prints an exact 4×6 at your printer's resolution. Your first 10 labels are free.
